Little does Alise know that Stark had kidnapped her daughter from the vampire family and has her in his possession. Her world starts to unravel as she struggles with who she can trust. It has been six months since Stark rescued Alise from Danes. Stark has not spoken to her in months, since their argument about him becoming an elder of the Guardian of Souls. She has distanced herself from him. He was concerned for her well-being, so he locked her up in the mental hospital, and he ensures she cannot contact Danes. Stark understood her anger but knew if she uncovered all his secrets, she would hate him more.

The atmosphere has been changing over time, and the horizon has been getting colder as the days pass. Darkness is more prevalent.

Stark puts his feet up on his desk and closes his eyes. He has just been informed of Danes’s location. He smiles, thinking of ending him once and for all. Oh, how he misses the days of hunting him down to locate Erin. However, he cannot think about the past anymore because it has crumbled. Stark was devastated seeing Alise in Danes’s arms as he fed on her. He still relives the memories of her body falling lifelessly to the rubble. Danes’s smile still haunts him. He was a coward and fled the fight.
